Step-By-Step Guide for Wood pellet Manufacturing Process

I. Raw Ingredients for Wood Pellets

If you build a small wood pellet plant, the quantity of ingredients is not much. You can use crop waste as raw material for the personal use of wood pellets. Other than crop waste, sawdust, softwood, and hardwood can be used to make wood pellets.

Any kind of additives and binders are not used to make wood pellets. It’s a physical process in which the shape of raw material changes by pellet machine.

II. Production Process

Wood pelleting is commonly divided into eight steps, which we have mentioned below:

1. Size Reduction

The first in wood pelleting is the size reduction in which raw ingredient is crushed into small pieces. The wood pelleting mill only works sufficiently when the uniform size of pellets uses. If you directly put a big size of raw material, it will block the circle of die and rollers.

2. Drying

The moisture level of raw material is important during pellet production. Moisture content greatly affects the quality of wood pellets. The best moisture level of raw material is from 10-15%. If you keep the moisture content level too high or too low, it can cause the failure of wood pellet forming.

3. Initial Sieving

After drying raw material, screens and magnets are used to separate material from unnecessary objects. This step is important because the raw material is collected from crop stalks and forest waste.

During this process, large stones and other visible unrequired things are picked up by hands, and metals and iron objects are separated using a conveying belt covered with a magnet surface. The use of a magnet plays an effective role in saving human resources and improving production competence.

4. Grinding

The fourth step is grinding, in which material is grind using a hammer mill. If you want to make this process stable and smooth, keep the machine maintained because the grinding quality depends on the mill’s well-sized screens, appropriate hammer patterns, and well-design air.

5. Palletization

Palletization is the key step in this process as the material would feed into the mill after grinding. Compression of die and rollers use to squeeze material through the die holes and take the shape of pallets.

6. Cooling

Wood pellets are so hot when they leave the pellet machine. If you want great quality, it is recommended to dry and cool these pellets before packing.

7. Final Sieving

When the material is compressed into pellets, some of the material remains uncompressed. This uncompressed material cause dust referred to as fines. Final sieving is necessary before packaging as fines can be recycled to the production line.

8. Pack and Store

The last step of the manufacturing process is packing the wood pellets. Good quality packaging is important to keep your wood pellets dry.
