Kerkaborum – Vörcsöki Furmint, 2008

Posted in Kerkaborum by admin on the May 18th, 2010

The Furmint from the joint venture of László Bussay, Zoltán Heimann and László Sz. Kis was a real bargain in 2006 for HUF 1650. Following a sharp decline in quality the next year, the wine still scored 5+ points at HUF1575 which still qualified it a bargain. No wonder I felt I had a sure shot when I bougt this bottle few days ago.

Clean mid-pale golden yellow hue. The nose is light, fresh, thin but with clear presence of lovage and butter, the latter not for long, with notes of papaya and litchi instead. Very acidic palate with a bit of tannic tartness. There are notes of lime and crab apple, not so much flavor-wise but squeezed and mixed 80%-20% (that’s almost 90% acidity). And a marzipan accent.

This Furmint is nothing like its predecessors. The 2008 makes the 2006 look legendary. This Furmint has evidently took a wrong turn but didn’t realise it’s a dead-end.

Score: 4– (but only just)

Price: HUF 1650
