The Furmint from the joint venture of László Bussay, Zoltán Heimann and László Sz. Kis was a real bargain in 2006 for HUF 1650. Following a sharp decline in quality the next year, the wine still scored 5+ points at HUF1575 which still qualified it a bargain. No wonder I felt I had a sure shot when I bougt this bottle few days ago.
Clean mid-pale golden yellow hue. The nose is light, fresh, thin but with clear presence of lovage and butter, the latter not for long, with notes of papaya and litchi instead. Very acidic palate with a bit of tannic tartness. There are notes of lime and crab apple, not so much flavor-wise but squeezed and mixed 80%-20% (that’s almost 90% acidity). And a marzipan accent.
This Furmint is nothing like its predecessors. The 2008 makes the 2006 look legendary. This Furmint has evidently took a wrong turn but didn’t realise it’s a dead-end.
Score: 4– (but only just)
Price: HUF 1650

What a modest title. I came up with it in only 1 minute of thinking. In my defense: it’s search-engine friendly and it’s true, from my perspective. Anyway, here’s the almost complete list of tasted wines and their score from 2008.
One remark, except the festival notes, all reviews were written based on at least 1/2 bottle of wine tasted by me alone over several hours, at least once over this period. Even wines presented in quick notes. Any occasional exception was mentioned in the given post, but they were maximum 2 or 3, if any.

Not being a Hárslevelű fan myself, this was my first surprise this day. More really good Hárslevelű were to follow.
This one has deep corn color, has honey and burnt sugar smell besides tropical fruits. The acids can almost balance the intense smell/taste, but only just – not. A little carbon dioxide makes it refreshing though. And it has vanilla in taste too. A really lovely wine for both beginners and maybe even for snobbish drinkers. I like it.

80% Furmint, 20% Hárslevelű. Excellent combination, resulting in a very intense, fresh smell rather Hárslevelű-type. The 13,5% alcohol is supported by nice acid. Cinnamon, or rather apple pie in smellGrass and vegetables are also present, but not the usual ones! My wife said
Dorombor was lemonade with lime. I am looking forward to find out how long the integrity of Furmint and Hárselvelű will last.

Orsolya has been one of my favorite emerging wineries. The smell of their wines are almost unbeatable. This Pinot is a bit of exception, nice light Pinot smell but less intense than you would expect from Orsolya and Zoltán. It’s still a good wine, but not exceptionnel. I am told that Orsolya Pincészet’s stocks are empty, so we have to wait ‘til next year for a fresh refill.

It’s a very strong 4+ for this young and small winery. It’s dry, but tastes a bit sweet and rustic, but acid is also not missing. I no longer remember why only gave 4+ points to them. I even purchased a whole bottle for HUF 1 700 right there.
I’m curious about their new works.

10 out of 10 Hungarians will never guess where Csörnyefölde is. Since Bussay more or less put Csörnyefölde on the wine map, few thousand wine lovers at least heard about it – the precise figure will remain unknown as well as the number of bottles produced of this wine. Yes, Bussay is another winemaker practically non-existing internet-wise. So let’s get straight to the review then.
According to the merchant’s website, Esküvé this year was 60% made of Olaszrizling and 40% of Rizling (Riesling) without additional yeast added and it had been matured for 10 months in once used barrels before bottling.
The review
Relatively bright light color.
The nose is medium complex, actually interestingly complex but one-dimensional: it’s rather floral than mineral or fruity. Any association would be forced, let’s just say it’s interesting.
On the palate very few fruity elements with peach note and very acidic. Clean, crisp and refreshing. The Riesling component shows more and mostly in the form of acids and oily texture, the Olaszrizling almost lacks the bitterness which is so typical of the grape. I expected more body too. But it’s overall a good wine very fairly priced (although the we’ve seen its price falling sharply recently almost making it a best buy, so good for us).
