A ride on Andrássy avenue

Andrássy is by far the most beautiful large avenue of Budapest. Every visitor should walk through it from one end to another. You’ll find nice shops, Cafés, restaurants (don’t miss Klassz!) but above all, architecture.

Budapest former ghetto

Ironically this more and more bohemian neighborhood still has elements of its not so glorious past.

Fertőd - Esterházy Kastély

I’ve recently visited Fertőrákos for the sole purpose of experiencing the Ráspi restaurant and winery. On our way back to Budapest we stopped at Fertőd and visited the castle of one of the most traditional family of the late Austro-Hungarian establishment’s Hungarian representatives. The family (Miklós Esterházy, to be more precise) that started building the [...]

Budapest, Szent István Bazilika

Shoes by the Danube - Jewish Memorial

A shocking memorial of Jews shot dead into the Danube river during the end of WW2. The shoes are now located at the Pest bank of the river overlooking the Buda Castle Dirtrict.

Bországgyűlés at Vajdahunyad in Városliget

Bországgyűlés is a yearly wine and food outdoor exhibition and fair following the Pannon Bormustra, a rather important national wine contest. “Full” coverage of the event is published on my Hungary Wine Reviews Blog, so let’s focus to the venue here. This is the smaller version of the Vajdahunyad castle of Romania, Transylvania to be [...]

Budapest, VIIIth district

Another typical building from the late XIXth, early XXth century Budapest. These houses can still be found in big number in the ravaged VIIIth district. The area is more lucky than its neighbour IXth disctrict which has been undergoing block rehabilitation programmes in the past decade. In practice this meant destruction of stylish old buildings [...]

Budapest, Soviet memorial

The building on the left is a bank. The other one is residential. All located on Szabadság tér, by the American embassy. And by Farger coffe shop, which features a very cute dog, good bagels, cakes and coffee.

‘56 bullets

These iron balls represent bullets shot on the building of Budapest Ministry of Agriculture during the revolution in 1956. This is not a political statement by me, I was interested in taking a shot of these solely from an artistic point of view.
The whole city (building walls) are full of bullets mostly from WW2 by [...]

‘56 monument

The monument - dedicated to the short-lived revolution against the communist regime in 1956 - was officially uncovered in 2005 in a scandalous ceremony. The much-criticized statue(?) was made by Emődi-Kiss Tamás, Papp Tamás, György Katalin, Horváth Csaba (i-ypszilon csoport). I think it’s cool.
Located near Heros’ Square (Hősök Tere) on Dósza György street in Budapest [...]
